This is a dramatisation (or do you call it film remake?) of the popular and much-loved book by Jane Austen - Pride and Prejudice. I believe many Austen fans have been disappointed by this movie, just the same way I felt let-down by the latest installment of Harry Potter. However, we should remind ourselves that there is a difference between books and film, which also accounts for why some would rather watch a film than read a book and vice versa. (Me, I prefer to do both - I’m the KS singaporean lah) Films can only show the tip of the iceberg, and only dramatise the most exciting parts of the book. So, a successful dramatisation of a book is really very dependent on the director, whether he can grasp the essence of the book, and transmit the author’s original message sans misinterpretations/changes. I think that Wright has done a fantastic job out of it!

He’s managed to show the absurdness of the mother, who like a hen, fusses over all her ‘chicks’… and worries constantly about marrying them off well. He did a lovely piece of work by showing the tension, the passion and the ‘hate’ between those two similar souls - Elizabeth and Darcy (btw, did they even mention his given name? it’s always Mr Darcy, Mr Darcy, Mr Darcy) at the ball where they met the second time. I loved the dance, (ok not the way they danced, I’ve had enough of it in sec sch) but the part where the camera panned around their really erm… emotionally-charged dance, it was like nothing else mattered to them but the dancing… and the film portrayed it by showing it as a dance with only the two of them.
romance is in the air
Hmm, somehow, watching the film made me feel the same way as I did when I was reading the book, which was almost a gadzillion years back. Haha, I can’t remember so many of the facts, having jumbled them up with the likes of Sense and Sensibility and Little Women. Gosh… FEMALE POWER!!! woohoo!

I really loved the film, in it entirety. The scenery, the storyline, the characters and the acting… save for that of Mr Darcy, I think he did not move a single facial muscle until he had to kiss her. -_- Probably very good to prevent wrinkles, but not very interesting for the movie-goer, and it’s like, he’s not as handsome as Mr Wickham. heh heh. (Wickham looks like a taller and more handsome concoction of Orlando Bloom and Leonardo diCaprio) lolz…

One thing I couldn’t figure out was… Hmmm, well, Keira Knightley is not without her assets. I just don’t understand why she was the only girl not wearing a corset at the ball??? (Real odd, it’s not like she’s Mr Collin’s future wife, or one of her younger sisters - the one who hates balls)

There, I hope I’ve written a good enough movie review for you! I’ll be sending the bill over to ya…
