With loads of grumbling and a massive headache, I set off for my cousin’s wedding at the Orchard Parade Hotel yesterday… Weddings always give me a headache, so many people and flash lights… *groggy*

And then unfortunately, quite a few of my cousins didn’t turn up. Not surprising though, my family’s gargantuan… can’t fit everyone in anyway.

But it was good to meet up with JJ again, haha, haven’t seen her for ages… the last I remembered we were exchanging stories about the atrocities we got up to when we were kids… like playing with earthworms and stuff. EWW. Cannot believe that these two trouble-makers have grown up into such law-abiding folks. Haha… She’s currently teaching at MGS… I think it’s great, MGS girls are really nice (I heard).

Anyway, then there’s her younger brother, who is like 1.8m tall! WHOA rite, he’s even taller than my brother! He was so disappointed that his fellow partner in crime couldn’t make it that night…

Oh, the food was good! Not like some weddings I’ve gone to in the past… this one got quality! hehe… but the way the waiters entered with the food is just so funny. Heh. Got music tempo to go along wan…

The Menu
Roast suckling pig (nice cuz for once, I didn’t feel nauseous with roast pork)
Shark fin’s soup (and i think the fin’s big enough this time round haha… I lurve the vinegar!)
Prawns in XO
Scallops with asparagus
Red garouper
Mushrooms and sea cucumber (hey, the mushrooms were so big :) :) :) )
Roast chicken in dunno what… tasted like ginger and wine… but very nice…
Lotus leaf rice (trying to kill us, cuz already very full and they served that as the last dish!)
Honey sea coconut and aloe vera (din’t try that but my mum said it wasn’t very sweet, so tasted more ‘natural’)

Oh, and for once, I finished one and a half glass of red wine and I also drove home! hehehe…
Anyway, usually I don’t drink…

I pity the bride and groom… The bride looked like she was swamped by her wedding gown… it’s really thick and heavy… The evening gowns were quite pretty… one pink and one pale blue… :D My poor cousin was sweating like crazy in his suit!

Snippets

Me: Perez, how old are you?
Perez to grandma: Grandmama, why this auntie so long-winded one?
Me: …

JJ’s parents call her and her brother over to shake hands with this distinguished gentleman…
JJ to me (when she got back to her seat): Hey, who did I just shake hand with huh?
Me: That’s 二姨丈!!!
JJ: Who?
Me: Er… that means… it’s your 二姑丈!

Me pulling on my mother’s sleeve (whispers): Ma, who is that?
Ma (at the top of her voice): That’s your 六姨丈 la!
Me: Really? (I look at my 六阿姨 whom I see often enough and wonder where her husband’s been all this time…

Me (approaching the table where all the elders were sitting): 大姨! 三阿姨,三姨丈!二舅舅,二 ah-gim, er… (who is this manz!) er… uncle, auntie 你们好!

and then comes the horrible part…
My fourth aunt, proud mother of two and grandmother of FOUR, steers the young’uns my way… oh no…
She points to me and says loudly and clearly to them…

这个是 阿姨!阿姨!快叫阿姨!

omg omg omg… so embarrassing, people starting to stare liao…

I’m glad my bro’s kind of growing up, and he seems to be maturing quite well… I’ve heard so many distasteful stories of spoilt younger brothers, frivolous younger sisters and rebellious teenagers that my heart trembles everytime I envision the rite of passage ahead for him. I think, luckily for my parents, my rebellious streak was effectively curbed by ‘a series of electrolyte imbalance’, with the effect that I rebelled much later, and milder. Hey, I turned out fine I think.

Anyway, just had a late night (super late night) chat with my brother about really cheem stuff… About human nature, friendships and stuff about being a ‘quiter’. My head’s all throbbing now. Shan’t be going to school tomorrow, I’ll devote the entire day to hibernating at the regional library and mug my psychomed notes. Like my Dad says, don’t go to school just cuz you got to go to school, if you can learn more out of school, then just go to school for exams. (hah, my father actively supports my decision to ‘pon’!)

I’m glad my brother has stopped functioning as the ‘door-stopper’, errand-boy and quiet ‘mouse’ staring idly into space with a vague smile on his face… He’s a great friend for sharing stuff, and frankly, I am impressed at certain maturity levels he possess.
I bet I’m the first to say this: younger brothers rock!
