MBBS examiners (part I): the grave-digger
The grave-digger
Perversely encourages you in the wrong direction (towards an F) by dissecting your errors and handing you the chang-ko to help you dig your own grave.
Examiner: You said that the patient is moderately anaemic?
MS: quakes Yessir…
Examiner: What do you mean by that? How do you classify anaemia?
MS: er… mild, moderate, severe?
Examiner: Look at this conjunctiva, would you say it’s mild, moderate or severe?
MS: Er… moderate?
Examiner: Really… how red must it be to be moderate?
MS: Er… medium red?
Examiner: So there’s light red, medium red and bright red?
MS: …
Recommended approach: I’m sorry sir, I would like to retract my statement. I meant that anaemia can be classified based on clinical laboratory measurement of haemoglobin levels, but in physical examination, the patient exhibits pallor.
