Overflow sux. BIG TIME. It’s just like being on call. Your phone keeps ringing and ringing, just like today, it rang thrice while I was trying to take blood. In no time, your mind goes blank as you rush from one to the other, doing mindless changes like taking bloods, sending in aurora forms and filling in applications for step down care (ok, I admit that requires a bit of brain work).
Anyway, I don’t feel much continuity of care, most of the time, I see only the beginning and the end. Ie. ANY new case that comes into any non-medical ward has to be clerked by me (unless it’s renal) and then ANY case that gets discharged (except renal) must be done by me.
So can you imagine how harrassed I felt when different wards calls me up to expedite their discharges? I wish I could spilt myself into many dopeys… hehe…
