“Where The Heart Is” is a story of a seventeen year old pregnant girl (Novalee Nation) who’s abandoned by her boyfriend at a Wal-mart store where she hid and lived till the birth of her child. Alone and a stranger in the city, penniless and homeless, she meets various people who accompany her on this journey of self discovery and growth.

Forney Hull, the librarian, who teaches her the value of wisdom, who encourages her to pursue studies, Sister Husband, the charitable neighbour who eventually takes her and Americus (the newborn) in, Mr Whitecotton, who taught her a different world, one through the lens of a camera.

Slowly begins a new life, where she learns to treasure herself, to convince herself that she does deserve good things, and that though she had a bad early start in life, it didn’t mean that she was condemned to such a life in the future.

All in all, this book might not have the oomph or the excitement like ‘Life of Pi’ (Yann Martel), nor does it have the gut-wrenching quality of ‘Once We Were Orphans’ (Kazuo Ishiguro) but in its own special way, helps readers nourish their souls. It’s a close second to Dodie Smith’s ‘I Capture The Castle’.

Seems like most people are having a good call today? Cuz 2 SIPS are commenting on my blog and fighting over a call bed instead of doing some work. Or did you guys abandon yr poor HOs huh? hehe…

Anyway, it seems like I have more to say now, mixing with the younger generation really puts back some life into these ole creakin’ bones of mine. And after a day amongst normal folks who don’t spend their lives in a sanitised madhouse, I can see what I’ve been missing out on. :(

Oh manz, I know, dobby you r ABB! HAHAHA… Oy, how come this ‘another m5′ so ungentlemanly… Tsk tsk. Don’t worry ABB, tomorrow you can take both the donuts in compensation for your lost bed! haha…

Ok, I’m off to roll around on my bed while contemplating call tmr. NITEZ!

YEAH! No work today!

So while my boss and my two house elves were slogging away at rounds, I was doing my rounds in Orchard! Hehheh.

Shopping for guys should be an easy thing, but shopping for some people is like getting a cluster headache… So many specifications and such taste! Heng I got good taste ok. Haha…

Guys clothes are booooooriiiing.

So I picked out two tops and a dress for myself to while away the boredom.

SPF and country road have nothing really nice, unless you like scruffy clothes. Zara is boring… G2000 still got hope but they’re looking awfully yellow these days…

Hehe so first I rounded Isetan at Shaw, then headed over to Wisma (got sales in lots of places, CnK had 30%) then Taka… (I had a good laugh at all those pple queueing up for so long outside ONE miserable fitting room, I just headed over to lingerie section and had three rooms to myself! HEHEHE) then after that decided to go shop for some fooood.

I found this long queue at this donut stall and since I was SO FREE, decided to join the queue then see if there was anything good to buy. I saw these two cookies ‘n’ cream donuts that look as cute as my slaves, so I think I’ll feed them that for breakfast tmr.

Wanted to continue looking at shoes and earrings (yup, me earring whore) but then this weird person kept calling me. Had a total of four missed calls so I decided better call back. For all I might know, it could be an SOS from some friend calling from work phone rite? So here’s the exchange:

Me: Hello, did somebody call me just only?
Guy: Hello, 你在哪里?你不知道我是谁meh?
Me: Er, no. I don’t.
Guy: Guess la…. Guess leh.
Me: No, I don’t know who this is and I’m not interested in guessing.
Guy: Wey, 不要这样leh… Guess mah…
Me: No, if you don’t tell me who you are right now, I’m going to hang up.
Guy: Ok… byebye…

And then, he still dares to call up again.

He says he called because he found out his phone had my number and he doesn’t know who I am. So I told him, then you must have stolen that phone and if he called me again, I would go report the theft. Watever. Boy am I glad he didn’t call again.

Anyway that idiot kind of took my appetite off earrings. I’ll just wait for xmas and extort a pair from friend. Hia hia *HINT HINT* (if you don’t catch the hint, I’ll sms you the make and model of the earrings…)

Finally dropped myself off at the library to fill up my head with some knowledge after a day of bimbotic activities… :) Going to start reading ‘The Painted Veil’.

More coming up, a review of ‘Where The Heart Is’.

I think for the first actual time in my life, I’ve run out of crap to put on my blog. Sigh.

So… my thought of this week, after having run-ins with some not-too-popular people and outrightly mean buggers is:

No matter how disgusting, hateful or despicable a person you might be, you’ll still have people who like you.

And the converse is true as well I suppose, so the lesson being?

Just be yourself and be happy. :D

Spent national day on call. A group of us caught a few sneaks of the parade while in the staff lounge. Due for another call tomorrow.

3 more weekend calls and 4 more weekday calls to look forward to this month.

It’s a month of endurance indeed.

As a tru-blu harry potter fan, and with the collaboration of BOSS,

We came up with this.

MAGIC 101 for use in the wards:

DAY WORK
Finished your catheterisation? Finished LP? Everything’s in a mess? - - - Evanesco!

Pt: “Doctor, I really never drink beer one… ”
You: “Yeah, I believe you uncle… LEGILIMENS!!!”

Muffliato - the ultimate spell to use to gossip about your bosses when they are in the vicinity! haha…

No more “auntie, can you please stop moving and let me put the plug in!” Simply say a “Immobulus!”

Pt: “Doctor, can you give me drink some water? I very tired, can give me some sleeping pills? Doctor, can you let me go home? I want to go home…. ”
“Silencio!”

and the most useful…
Accio!
Accio casenotes! Accio temperature chart! Accio IMR! Accio staff nurse! Haha…
(just make sure the nurses don’t ‘accio HO’)

ON-CALL
Petrificus Totalus: for those demented aunties who fight nail and tooth when you try to do neuro exam, take blood or set plug.

Ennervate - can save all the trouble of the ETT, then also can put MICU outta business. Heh.

Lumos - more for those pple who need to walk along the creepy corridors of AH, or the lonely dark path to KRW.

Impedimenta - to all the shit that comes our way daily. -_-

DARK MAGIC
And like the hippocratic oath, some spells are taboo too!
Like your ‘Avada Kedavra’, ‘Imperio’ and ‘Cruciatus’, no matter how much we would like to use the latter two on certain people…
