*giggles*

Well I just couldn’t help it when someone ordered ‘daily chest x-ray’ for this patient with ‘non-resolving’ pneumonia…

-_- <- this is my face…

-_-” <- face of radiographer…

WTH <- expression of radiologist…

I can imagine the radiographers calling up and saying in their very accented tones…

“Dr, are you sure you want to expose the patient to so much radiation and for how long?”

I used to have so much to talk about…

So much excitement and hypomania in my blog. So much to grouch about, complain, and comment about. I think these days I’m just sort of used to the whole thing…

Used to all those stupid things that happen, all those unpleasant happenings at work. So much so that I seem to leave them at my doorstep once I get home. It kind of feels good :)

Anyway, well’s all dried up. Gotta wait for inspiration to come knock me on the head!

Just realised that my review of this film is long overdue! Been feeling a severe sense of blog inertia.

Sweeny Todd isn’t really a film, it’s like a macabre. Perhaps I’m using the wrong word to describe a different term. I mean to say it as a noun, it’s an art piece that makes macabre and gothic into something of a masterpiece. It doesn’t matter that the heinous crimes he committed were out of reason and illogical that he was not caught despite such blatant carelessness in his crimes. The only thing that mattered was the way the film was presented. It’s very Tim Burton, but no longer in his usual comic-book way like ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’. Johnny Depp is quite adept at portraying such a demonic character who masks his blood lust under the masquerade of ‘revenge’. Helena Bonham Carter however, looks no different in her gothic getup as Bellatrix (in Harry Potter), and her singing is well… not that pleasant either.

The film gets gory with all the digging of that sharp shiny razor into the necks of such unsuspecting clients. And at times, you really can’t predict whether it’s a shave his giving them or a ‘close shave’. It gets better when we see how they grind up all their victims and use them as their secret ingredient in Mrs Lovett’s special pies.

But best of all, I like the slogan - Never Forget, Never Forgive.

It just sounds so wonderfully and wickedly clever! haha…

I’m devastatingly devastated at the horrible abuse of HbA1c I saw today… As you know, any patient who’s admitted with abscesses be it foot, leg, thigh, chest, abdominal wall… and not know to have DM should be investigated for it right?

Which I assume would consist of a random H/C at ED and then a fasting venous sample at ward level… But guess what, some rather senior people I know made me do a HbA1c to “investigate” for DM in a patient whose random H/C at ED was 6.1 and whose fasting glucose was 6.4.

… Sigh…

Yesterday’s call was just too good to be true… From that cheerful Sunday morning and that suspicious lack of admissions in the afternoon all the way till dinner… It was just too good to be true…

Dinner came by order at like 830pm… By then we were all ravenous haha… B and I saw to how ‘horror’, our reg had bought…. TWO GOLDEN PILLOWS!!! The golden pillow is this HUGE BAO of bread wrapping curry inside… It was rather yummy though and it’s rare to get to eat it cuz the queue is so darn long!

Anyway, after we had the two BIG baos… Waaaa I got a sicky admitted who needed high D lor! Then the admissions just kept pouring in and pouring in till the hospital was declared ‘FULL’ and De con opened… Guess my chagrin when the nurses called up to say, ‘Hello Dr, this is from decon, u have THREE patients waiting to be seen here!’ ARGHHHH…

Only slept one hour loh, and that is indecent for an ortho take!

Ellie Simmons faces what seems like a trip to purgatory when she is confronted by an invitation to her ancestral home… Armed with no significant other but plenty of cellulite she decides to hire a ‘boyfriend’ from Eligibility Escorts to ease her trip. Little does she know that her seemingly harmless pretence would bring about such an interesting story…

Her relative passes away and leaves behind the weirdest/queerest of all wills… One that stipulated that she and she ‘fiancee’ live at the ancestral home for 6 months, she lose all her cellulite (requiring her to loose like a pound or two per week) and for them to discover the ‘treasure’ within the house by the end of 6 months or all the fortune would go to her money grabbing, nasty relations.

What follows are six months of hard work, self discovery, and a charming romance-mystery awaiting readers…

It just occurred to me… Wouldn’t it be great if all our married cons give us poor, hardworking HOs angpows?!?!!!

After all aren’t we like the youngest ‘babies’ of the team hahaha and in such dire financial straits despite working our asses off. HAHA…

Good idea eh.

Atonement

Rating: ****/5

‘Atonement’, based on a novel by Ian McEwan, is the tragic story of how Briony Tallis, a thirteen-year-old with a runaway imagination ruins the lives of her sister, Cecilia (Keira Knightley) and her lover, Robbie Turner when she accuses him of rape. Cecilia becomes estranged from her family as she insists on awaiting the return of Robbie, while Robbie is given a choice of prison vs the infantry. Meanwhile, Briony realises the horrifying ramifications of what she’d done as she grows up and spends most of her life doing penance as a nurse in the world war.

‘Atonement’ is her final act of kindness for the star-crossed lovers, Robbie dies of septicaemia a day before British troops returned to homeland while Cecilia dies in a railway bombing. She seeks not for forgiveness but to tell the truth and to give the couple a fairy tale ending, something she owed them.

The cinematography is remniscent of ‘Pride and Prejudice’ but it is unable to achieve the same level of beauty. The attempts at artistic flare with music accompanying the sound of type writing was a laudable effort if not for the atrocity of the situation it was used for - the fuelling of a fertile and farfetched imagination of the young Briony - I still cannot get over the mortification on her face over the four-letter coarse word used to describe a certain part of a woman’s anatomy. Heh. ‘The Hours’ by Stephen Daldry was a much more perfect production.

Overall, I would say it was really an awfully sad film, judging by the copious tears shed by fellow movie goer. Sigh. I have to admit I was a bit bored by Briony’s over-reaction and ridiculous over-acting at the start that I fell asleep, but I did cry a bit towards the end… Sob Sob. Overall, a worthwhile watch, and look out for the luscious green gown!!! Woot!

It’s now about 3 days post birthday and I totally feel my wrinkles popping out! Hah! I think it’s about time that I start to mourn birthdays rather than ostentatiously celebrating them! I’m aging AAAHHHHHH!!!

Anyway, thank to everyone for the good tidings and lovely presents. The cake was really a very sweet gesture (lord knows I’ve not had any birthday cake for years… ) :D And to my dearest friend who thought I would be disappointed with that pair of earrings, I admit (haha) I really would like something else (you know what lah) but that aside, I really appreciated the fact that you bought something that I think you didn’t really like but which you knew I liked, and not something that you liked better than I did. I hope this isn’t too convoluted… Anyway my mum likes it too and she is sooo utterly jealous of OUR good tastes…

It wasn’t a go-all-out-to-celebrate kind of birthday; it was a different kind of special cuz I think I celebrated all my close friendships. And my sub CG finally managed to meet and gossip like whirlwinds… (and we used to be the least gossipy pple around haha…)

More coming up… reviews of ‘Atonement’…
